Role of Neurology PAs Grows Amid Physician Shortage

A new research letter provides the first national analysis of PAs practicing in neurology, revealing workforce trends as the specialty faces a projected neurologist shortage.

The study published in JAMA Network Open was authored by Mirela Bruza-Augatis, Ph.D, MS, PA-C; Nicholas M. Hudak, Ph.D, MPA, MSEd, PA-C; Roderick S. Hooker, Ph.D, MBA, PA; Kasey Puckett, MPH and Andrzej Kozikowski, Ph.D.

Bruza-Augatis, an NCCPA Research Scientist, demonstrated that PAs who practice in the neurology specialty make up 1% of the PA profession, yet their numbers have grown by 170% for nearly a decade – from 450 in 2013 to 1,215 in 2022.
