PAs Can Join Provider Bridge to Support Emergency Response

The NCCPA is a partner with the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) in the launch of Provider Bridge, a service designed to streamline procedures and facilitate critical medical services across state lines during emergencies.

“NCCPA is proud to collaborate in this essential program,” said NCCPA President and CEO Dawn Morton-Rias, Ed.D, PA-C, ICE-CCP, FACHE. “Provider Bridge represents a major step forward in ensuring that PAs can rise to the occasion during emergencies.”

As a Board Certified PA, you can quickly join the free-to-use Provider Bridge platform through the NCCPA PA Portal.

Registering for this service documents your readiness through a time-stamped digital report, or “Passport,” which includes your name, provider type, professional school and graduation date, NPI, state license number(s) and specialty.

Each license is verified via data sharing to allow state medical and nursing boards, hospitals, health care institutions, public health offices and emergency management teams to search for verified medical professionals willing to assist in an emergency or deploy to a disaster site. Additionally, entities can verify the credentials of state-based registrants and professionals from other states.

“It’s about equipping our providers with the tools they need to serve patients when and where they are most needed,” Morton-Rias said.

Provider Bridge emerged in response to the challenges posed during the COVID-19 pandemic, addressing the urgent need for health care providers to deliver care without facing delays associated with state-specific licensure processes.

The incidence of emergencies and disasters has increased steadily in the U.S. since the 1980s. In 2023, FEMA issued more than 70 major disaster declarations.
