PAs Expand Role in Cardiology Amid Specialist Shortage
As the prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) continues to increase, and the number of cardiologists remains limited, PAs are emerging as important members of cardiology care teams. This is according to a recent study published in JACC: Advances.
Researchers Sondra M. DePalma, DHSc, PA-C, CLS, AACC, DFAAPA; Roderick S. Hooker Ph.D, MBA, PA; Mirela Bruza-Augatis PhD, MS, PA-C; Andrzej Kozikowski, Ph.D and Kasey Puckett, MPH, analyzed NCCPA data to assess trends in the PA workforce within cardiology. By the end of 2023, there were 3,705 Board Certified PAs who worked in cardiology — about 2.9% of the profession.
